Comparison between batch and fed-batch production of rhamnolipid by Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Authors: not saved
Abstract:
This paper presents a comparison between batch and three different sets of fed batch fermentations forrhamnolipid production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The batch run was performed with 500 ml of culturemedium having the initial glycerol and sodium nitrate concentrations of 30 and 8.3 g/l, respectively. For a fedbatch run with nitrogen source in feed, 250 ml of the nitrogen excluded culture medium was in the bioreactorinitially, and 250 ml culture medium containing 16.6 g/l sodium nitrate was fed to the bioreactor continuously.A similar procedure was repeated for fed batch runs with carbon, and phosphorus source in feed. Statisticalanalysis showed that fed batch runs were better than batch in term of rhamnolipid production, and amongthe fed batch runs the maximum amount of rhamnolipid. (4.12 g Rhamnose Equivalent/l) was for the fedbatch run with the carbon source in feed.

A Mathematical Modelling to Predict Rhamnolipid Production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa under Nitrogen Limiting Fed-Batch Fermentation
In this study, a mathematical model was proposed and the accuracy of this model was assessed to predict the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and rhamnolipid production under nitrogen limiting (sodium nitrate) fed-batch fermentation. All of the parameters used in this model were achieved individually without using any data from the literature. The overall growth kinetic of the strain was evaluat...
full textEnhanced rhamnolipids production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa based on a pH stage-controlled fed-batch fermentation process.
Rhamnolipids find broad applications as natural surfactants, emulsifiers, and antibiotics because of their low toxicity, high biodegradability and environmental soundness. In this study, a pH stage-controlled process of fermentation of rhamnolipids by Pseudomonas aeruginosa O-2-2 was established. A yield of 24.06 g/L in batch fermentation was achieved in a 5-L fermentor via the optimization of ...
full textBioethanol Production from Cellulosic Fibers: Comparison between Batch and Fed-batch Saccharification
Unbleached pulp from the pulp and paper industry was used as a cellulosic material source to produce bioethanol in a separate hydrolysis and fermentation process. In the batch enzymatic saccharification, three cellulolytic enzymes and different initial carbohydrate (CH) contents were tested. Cellic CTec2 was shown to be the most efficient enzyme with the lowest dosage used: 35 FPU gCH . Sugar p...
full textPhytase production by the unconventional yeast Pichia anomala in fed batch and cyclic fed batch fermentations
A marked enhancement in the production of cell-bound phytase in Pichia anomala was achieved in cyclic fed batch fermentation (47333 UL -1 ) in comparison with that in batch (11569 UL -1 ) and fixed volume fed batch (36911 UL -1 ) fermentations in cane molasses medium. Phytase productivity was sustainable in cyclic fed batch fermentation over seven days, and therefore, this mode of fed batch fer...
full textModeling and Simulation of Polyhydroxybutyrate Production by Protomonas extorquens in Fed-batch Culture
Modeling and simulation of Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) production by Protomonas extorquens in fed-batch culture were conducted in this research. The fed-batch model, developed for this process, employed a kinetic model proposed by other researchers. Several kinetic models were investigated to choose the best model. The criterion for this selection was goodness of fit (δ2). Haldane kinetic model w...
full textStrategies for improved rhamnolipid production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA1
Rhamnolipids are biosurfactants with potential for diversified industrial and environmental uses. The present study evaluated three strategies for increasing the production of rhamnolipid-type biosurfactants produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PA1. The influence of pH, the addition of P. aeruginosa spent culture medium and the use of a fed-batch process were examined. The culture medium a...
